Indo-Canadian Consultancy roped in for feasibility study of 10 sites

After sealing a joint venture with Nepal’s Triveni Group recently, Noida-based Bhilwara Energy Ltd (BEL) has identified 10 new hydropower projects in Nepal with a total capacity of 1500-2000 MW.

Sources said BEL has already paid survey fees to the Nepalese government for these 10 projects. The company is said to have roped in Indo-Canadian Consultancy Services, also a part of the Bhilwara Group, to undertake feasibility studies for all potential hydropower projects in Nepal.

Bhilwara Energy is the holding firm for the power business of the LNJ Bhilwara group with group firms HEG Ltd holding around 40% and RSWM holding 27% in it.

The company has already bagged licences for two power projects in Nepals the 20 MW Balephi project in northern Sindhupalchowk district and the 51 MW Likhu-4 between Ramechhap and Okhaldhunga districts.

The company’s spokesperson said Bhilwara Energy will be holding 2/3rd equity in bigger sized power projects and 1/3rd in smaller sized projects.

The company’s total power portfolio is estimated to be around 1700 MW. BEL’s total power generation capacity is expected to increase from current 86 MW currently to 1728 MW over the next seven years.
